Auburn is a city in Cayuga County, New York. It is part of the Finger Lakes region, located just north of Owasco Lake. It is the only city in Cayuga County and serves as the county seat. All county government offices are located in Auburn., the city population was approximately 26,500.
The area was first settled in 1793. In 1815, Auburn was incorporated as a village. Later in 1848, it became a city. Auburn's early economy was built by the Erie Canal and the expansion of the southern Central Railroad. The railroad ran from Pennsylvania to Lake Ontario. Both the canal and railroad let the city export many of its goods up and down the state.
