Big Flats is a town in Chemung County, New York., the town population was estimated at 7,600. It is located in the Southern Tier region approximately ten miles north of the Pennsylvania State line. The town is just west of the small city of Elmira and a few miles east of the small city of Corning. The town was previously known as “Great Plains.” True to its name, the area consists of a broad expanse of relatively flat land. The Chemung River flows through the town.
