Town of Chester, New York
Chester is a larger rural town located in the middle of Orange County, New York, about an hour and a half north of New York City. As of August of 2021, the town's estimated population sits at 12,120. Chester was established in the 1700's by European Settlers. It's early economy of dairy products flourished thanks to the Erie Railroad passing through town in 1841. Most of the town's dairy products would be sold to businesses in New York City. In town there is also a village named Chester, which has it's own Justice Court.
Traffic Tickets in Chester
A portion of the New York State Route 17 (concurrent with U.S. Route 6) passes through the jurisdiction of the Village which means the Village Justice Court adjudicates a number of traffic offenses, mostly speeding tickets and mostly from the summer traffic. The Town of Chester Justice Court has jurisdiction of other important roads including New York State Route 94, New York State Route 17M, and County Road 13. Route 17 tickets are issued almost exclusively by New York State Troopers. Traffic tickets elsewhere in Chester are usually issued by local Town of Chester Police Department.
