Clarkson is a town in Monroe County, New York. It is located approximately twenty miles west of downtown Rochester and approximately ten miles south of the Lake Ontario shore. The area is known as the Finger Lakes region., the Clarkson population was estimated at 7,400. The town was established in 1819 and named after Matthew Clarkson, a Colonial era general and politician who served in the Revolutionary War under Benedict Arnold. The town encompasses several hamlets and a small portion of a village named Brockport. The hamlets are Clarkson Corners, Garland, Morton, and Redman Corners.
