Clinton is the name of a county in New York State. It is in the most northeastern portion of the state, with Vermont to the east and Canada to the north., the county had a population of around 79,000. The western portion of Clinton County is rural and is within the Adirondack Mountains. Most county residents live in the eastern part of the county, along Lake Champlain. Roughly 30,000 live in or around the City of Plattsburgh. It is the only city in the county, and where all county government offices are located.

This highway runs north-south on the eastern side of the county. It allows vehicular transportation between Quebec Province in Canada and all points southward. The I-87 is patrolled by troopers of the New York State Police. Most of the citations they issue are for speeding infractions. The speed limit does not exceed 65 miles per hour. Canadian motorists are often ensnared because they often do not adjust properly between KMH and MPH.
