Greene is a village in Chenango County, New York. It is located approximately twenty miles north of the City of Binghamton and is considered part of the Southern Tier region. The village is within the Town of Greene. It is in the center of town and serves as the main commercial area., the village population was estimated to be 1,400.

There are two main roads in the village. Going north-south in the center of the village is State Highway 12 (NYS-12/NYS-41). Route 12 runs between Binghamton in the south and Utica in the north. It traverses a major portion of the Central New York region and serves as the main road in several towns in Chenango County and Oneida County. Going east-west through the village is NYS-41/NYS-206. In the eastern part of the village, it is known as Washington Street. In the western part of the village, it is known as Genesee Street. Outside of the village, Route 41 and Route 206 split. The NYS-41 continues northwest in the direction of Cortland. The NYS-206 continues westward towards the Town of Triangle.
Most village traffic stops occur on Route 12 or Route 41. As these roads enter the village, the speed limit is reduced from 55 miles per hour to 30 mph. Many traffic stops occur at these particular points, where motorists fail to slow down properly. Traffic citations in the village can be issued by officers of the Village of Greene Police Department, troopers of the New York State Police, and deputies of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. All village traffic tickets are made answerable to the Greene Village Court. The court shares its location with the Greene Town Court.
