Greenwood is a rural town in Steuben County, New York. It is part of New York’s Southern Tier region and is located fifteen and a half miles south of Hornell City. The town makes up forty-one square miles. Greenwood’s first settlers arrived circa 1820. In 1827, the town was officially formed. Its early economy was mostly based on salt production. Four hamlets make up the town. They are Bennetts, Greenwood, and West Greenwood. Another hamlet goes by the name of Rough and Ready.
