Hunter, New York

Hunter is a town on the southern border of Greene County, New York. The town is approximately sixty miles south of Albany and covers ninety square miles. As of October of 2022, Hunter’s population was 3,021. There are two villages in the town. They are known as Hunter and Tannersville. Several hamlets make up the town as well. They are known as Edgewood, Elka Park, Haines Falls, Lanesville and Platte Clove.

The area sees a lot of traffic in the summer because it is part of the Catskill Mountains and sees a lot of traffic in the winter season due to its proximity to the Hunter Mountain ski area. Hunter is home to the second highest mountain in the Catskill Mountain Range and has one of the more popular ski resorts in the region.

Traffic Tickets in Hunter

There are two courts in Hunter. Both are located in the Village of Tannersville. One court is dedicated to the village it resides in, and the other, The Town Court, has jurisdiction over the remaining portion of town. The local police department provides road coverage. In addition, the New York State Police and Greene County Sheriff’s Department do the same. Officers, troopers, and sheriffs are on constant lookout for any unsafe or suspicious activity. Of course, they also conduct traffic patrols. The authorities can conduct a traffic stop if there is probable cause and will not hesitate to issue a traffic violation if necessary. Common citations issued include speeding and driving with a suspended license.

Both villages sit along the town’s arterial road, New York State Route 23A (NYS-23A). NYS-23A is an east-west bound road that cuts through the town’s northern portion. New York State Route 214 (NYS-214) serves the southwest area of town. It enters town from the south and runs north until it meets NYS-23A, where it terminates. This occurs halfway between both villages.
