Lapeer is a town in Cortland County, New York. The town is part of the Central New York region. It is roughly 30 miles north of Binghamton and around 50 miles south of Syracuse. Lapper is a relatively small town., the population was approximately 725. Lapeer was settled in 1799 by Primus Grant, a migrant from Guiana. In 1845 the town was formally established. The town covers approximately twenty-five square miles. There are two hamlets in Lapeer. They are known as Lapeer and Lapeer Church. Lapeer is one of several remaining “dry towns” in New York State. The consumption and possession of alcohol in town is strictly prohibited.
