Liberty, New York
Liberty is the name of a town and village in Sullivan County, New York. The village is located in the central part of the town and is the main population area. Most businesses and town offices are also located in the village. The town also encompasses the hamlets of Ferndale, Parksville, Swan Lake, and White Sulphur Springs., the combined population was estimated at 9,700. Liberty is considered part of the Catskill Mountains region and is approximately 100 miles northwest of New York City.

In a famous incident in 2012, Liberty court personnel ordered the arrest of a motorist who sent back his paperwork with expletives. The charges were subsequently dropped. The motorist sued the court and the case was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
