Manchester is a town in Ontario County, New York. It is considered part of New York’s Finger Lake region and is around thirty miles southeast of downtown Rochester., Manchester had a population of approximately 9,246, spread over thirty-eight square miles. The town was established in 1822 and named after the English city, Manchester. Inside the town there are three villages, Manchester, Shortsville and Clifton Springs. Clifton Springs is split between Manchester and its neighboring town, Phelps. Additionally, spread throughout the town are the hamlets of Gypsum (formerly Plainville), Littleville, Manchester Center, and Port Gibson.
