New Bremen is a town in Lewis County, New York. It is located on the western side of the Adirondack Mountains approximately 90 miles northeast of Syracuse. The town covers roughly fifty-five square miles. The area was settled around 1798 by German immigrants., New Bremen’s population was estimated at 2,600. The population is down from years prior. Three hamlets make up the town. They are named Crystal Dale, Kirschnerville, and New Bremen (formerly “Dayansville”). Additionally, a small portion of Croghan Village falls under the town’s jurisdiction. Most of the village is in the neighboring town, Croghan. The village is located along the town’s north boundary.
