New Haven is a town in Oswego County, New York. It is approximately forty miles north of Syracuse and is bordered by Lake Ontario to the north., its population was estimated at 3,000. Historians are not certain of the town’s initial settlement; however, it was established as a township in 1813. This occurred prior to Oswego County’s creation. It was originally settled as “Vera Cruz.” The town covers a total of about thirty-three and a half square miles and consists of numerous hamlets. The hamlets are Butterfly Corners, Cummings Bridge, Demster, Demster Beach, New Haven (formerly Gay Head), Pleasant Point Crossing, Sala, South New Haven, and Vermillion.
