Pharsalia is a rural town in Chenango County, New York. It is part of the Southern Tier region and is roughly thirty miles north of Binghamton., the town population was approximately 572. The town covers thirty-nine square miles, most of it is forestland. The town encompasses the hamlets of Pharsalia, North Pharsalia, and East Pharsalia, and Northwest Corners.

In the southern part of town, County Route 10 (CR-10) runs northeast and southwest from Pharsalia to East Pharsalia. It then continues southeast until it leaves town.

Both state troopers and county sheriffs are authored to conduct traffic stops. Their citations are made returnable to the Town of Pharsalia Justice Court (Pharsalia Town Court). The court is responsible for adjudicating all traffic tickets. They handle various traffic infractions including driving with a suspended license and speeding. This court is one of the smallest courts in New York State, by volume of cases.
