Riga (pronounced Rye-ga) is a rural town in Monroe County, New York. It is eighteen miles southwest of downtown Rochester., the town’s population was estimated at 5,900. Inside Riga is a village named Churchville. It is the town’s main population area and where the town’s government offices are located. In the War of 1812, many of the war’s bloodiest battles were fought in the Riga area.
