Rushford is a town in Allegany County, New York. It is located approximately sixty miles southeast of Buffalo. The town is considered part of New York’s Southern Tier region. Rushford encompasses the hamlets of Balcom Beach, East Rushford, Fairview, Hardy Corners, and Hillcrest. In 1927, a dam was built on the Caneadea Creek. The dam’s construction resulted in the flooding and destruction of East Rushford and Kellogville, two communities along the creek. In its place, the Rushford Lake was created, now home to fishing and summer recreation., Rushford’s estimated population was 1,100.
