Schroeppel was the surname of early settlers, hence the name of the town., the town population was estimated at 7,900. Schroeppel consists of numerous hamlets and one village. The hamlets are named Boewn Corners, Caughdenoy, Gilbert Mills, McMahon Corners, Peacock Corners, Pennellville, Roosevelt Corners, Sand Ridge, Shephard Corners, and Stewart Corners. The village is named Phoenix. It serves as the downtown and is the location of town offices.

The remaining center and eastern area of Schroeppel is rural, and consists mainly of small, local roads.
