Scott is the name of a town in Cortland County, New York. The town is considered part of the Finger Lakes region. It is around 35 miles southwest of Syracuse. As of April of 2022, the population of Scott was 1,144. The Town of Scott was formed in 1815 and named after Winfield Scott , a Commanding General of the United States Army for forty-seven years (1814 to 1861). The town is the birthplace of James Henry Salisbury, creator of the Salisbury Steak. Four hamlets make up the town. They are named East Scott, Fair Haven, Grout Mill and Scott (formerly “Scott Center”). Skaneateles Lake is one of the Finger Lakes. Its southern shore is in Fair Haven.
