Speeding is a common occurrence in Southport. This usually happens on the town’s arterial road, New York State Route 328 (NYS-328). This road sees a significant amount of traffic year round. It leads drivers to the heart of Elmira, but not before passing through Seerley Creek, Webb Mills and Pine City.
As NYS-328 enters Southport from the New York – Pennsylvania State line, it heads north – north-east. There are two roundabouts on NYS-328. Motorists heading south-west via NYS-328 will have to drive through two. NYs-328 also intersects with New York State Route 14 (South Broadway) as it gets closer to Elmira. After this intersection NYS-28 turns into NYS-427 (Clemens Center Parkway). The parkway brings motorists to downtown Elmira.
Most of Elmira’s west and south rural areas are served by smaller local roads leading to NYS-328.
