Town of West Almond, New York
West Almond is a town in Allegany County, New York. It is considered part of New York’s Southern Tier region and is approximately ninety miles southeast of Buffalo. West Almond is a rural town with an estimated population of 365 (). The town was first settled in 1816 and established in 1835. There are only two hamlets in West Almond. One is Bennetts, in the north-west corner of town. The other is West Almond, to the east of center.

I-86 is a 222 mile east-west bound highway that serves New York’s Southern Tier region. It passes east-west through West Almond in its entirety. I-86 is where most traffic tickets in town originate. The speed limit through West Almond is 65 miles per hour. Motorists clocked in the 80 mph or above will generally be pulled over and cited. All traffic stops on the I-86 are conducted by New York State Police. However, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department can conduct traffic stops as well.

One runs parallel to the interstate, known as County Route 2 (Karr Valley Road). Entering the town from the south-west corner is County Route 28 (CR-28), which runs north until it terminates upon meeting CR-2. The northwest corner of town is served by County Route 16. CR-16 passes through the Hamlet of Bennetts. Deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office can conduct vehicle stops on town roads.
