Amenia is a town in Dutchess County, New York. The word “amenia” in Latin means “pleasant to the eye”. The town rests on the Connecticut state line approximately ninety miles northeast of New York City., the town’s population was estimated at 3,700. Amenia covers approximately forty-four square miles and was established in 1788. There are several hamlets that make up the town. This road intersects with NYS-22 just south of Wassaic. The remaining town area is served by many smaller roads. These roads lead back to NYS-22 and the other county routes.
