Beacon, New York
Beacon is a city in Dutchess County, New York. It rests on the east side of the Hudson River around seventy miles north of New York City. , the city’s population was estimated at 15,000. Beacon covers about five square miles. The city was incorporated in 1913. Beacon was known as the “Hat Making Capital of the US” during the 1800’s. One factory produced roughly 5,000 hats daily.
