Canandaigua (pronounced ka-nuhn-DAY-gwuh) is the name of a city in Ontario County, New York. The city is geographically located within the Town of Canandaigua but the city and town are governed separately. The name Canandaigua is derived from the Seneca Native American tribe language. In their tongue, “Canandaigua” means “place selected for a settlement”. Canandaigua is part of New York’s Finger Lake region. Downtown Canandaigua is around thirty miles southeast of downtown Rochester. The city makes up about five square miles and has an estimated population of 10,600 ().
