Many tickets in the town are issued for speeding towards the city. This occurs frequently on major roadways like US-Route 20/New York State Route 5, which enters town from the west and east. US-20/NYS-5 is the city’s main southern roadway. New York State Route 332 (Rochester Road) is another main road that heads into the city. NYS-332 enters from the north and heads south-east. When it reaches the city boundary, it becomes North Main Street, and acts as the city’s arterial road. As the NYS-332 enters the city the speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. It remains a wide road with multiple lanes. A number of speeding tickets are issued on this portion of the road, where motorists fail to reduce their speed properly. The NYS-332 meets US-20/NYS-5 in the city’s southern area. From the north-east comes New York State Route 21. It falls under the town’s jurisdiction very briefly, then enters the city. As it enters the city, it becomes Gibson Street, and intersects with Main Street in the city center.

The southern portion of town is rural. It is served by only two major roads. The first would be New York State Route 21 S (NYS-21). It runs through the hamlets of Academy and Cheshire as it heads north towards the city. Along the Canandaigua Lake runs County Route 16 (West Lake Road). It is yet another road that brings motorists to the city.
