Canandaigua (generally pronounced ka-nun-DAY-gwuh) is a town in Ontario County, New York. It is located on the northern and western shore of Canandaigua Lake, one of the eleven Finger Lakes. The town surrounds on all sides the small city of Canandaigua. The larger city of Rochester is approximately thirty miles to the northwest. The town encompasses the hamlets of Academy, Arsenal Hill, Centerfield, Cheshire, and Padelford. , the town population was estimated at 11,600.

Going northeast, towards Manchester, is State Route 21 (Chapin Road). Route 21 goes through the city and also exits to the south towards Cohocton. Going northwest, towards Farmington, is State Route 332 (Rochester Street). Going west, towards East Bloomfield, is the combined US-20/NYS-5. Going southwest, towards Bristol, is State Route 32.
All traffic violations are adjudicated in the Town of Canandaigua Justice Court (Canandaigua Town Court). This court should not be confused with the Canandaigua City Court. The two courts are independent of each other and in different locations.
