Catlin is a town in Chemung County, New York. It is just north of the City of Elmira and is considered part of New York’s Southern Tier region. , the town’s estimated population was 2,500. Catlin covers thirty-eight square miles. The town was named after a surveyor and public official named Phineas Catlin. Several hamlets make up the town. They are Chambers, Pine Valley, Post Creek and Tompkins Corners.

County Route 12 (Johnson Hollow Road) cuts through Catlin’s north-east corner. For a brief moment, New York State Route 14 (Watkins Road) falls under Catlin’s jurisdiction as it enters and quickly leaves the eastern town boundary. Smaller local roads serve the remaining parts of town.
