Elmira is a city in Chemung County, New York. It is the largest city in the county with a population of a little more than twenty-six thousand. The city also serves as the “county seat”, meaning it houses the county legislature and all other county offices. The city is just north of the Pennsylvania border. The city was first settled in the 18th century and there are a number of historic sites in the area. The heyday of Elmira was in the 1950’s.
