East Bloomfield is a town in Ontario County, New York. It is part of the Finger Lakes region and is located around twenty-five miles south of Rochester. The town covers exactly thirty-three and a third square miles. East Bloomfield contains one village and four hamlets. The village is named Bloomfield. It is the most populated area in town and the location of most businesses. The hamlets are East Bloomfield, Holcomb, South Bloomfield and Speakers Corners., the total population was estimated at 3,700. The town was formed along with the county in 1789. Its original name was “Bloomfield”. The name changed to “East Bloomfield” after the town of West Bloomfield was formed in 1833. The Northern Spy apple, one of the most popular types of apples, originated in East Bloomfield.
