Elmira is the name of a town in Chemung County, New York. The town forms a horseshoe-like shape around the city of Elmira. The town is larger than the city but has a smaller population., the town population was estimated at 6,700, spread over twenty-two and a half square miles.
Chemung County is considered part of the Southern Tier region. Elmira is around ten miles north of the Pennsylvania State line and around sixty miles west of the City of Binghamton. The town encompasses the village of Elmira Heights and the hamlets of East Elmira and West Elmira.
