Fayette is a town in Seneca County, New York. It is part of the Finger Lakes region. Seneca Lake forms the western town boundary and Cayuga Lake forms the eastern town line., the town had an estimated population of 3,600. The town consists of one village and seven hamlets. The village is named Waterloo. It is split between Fayette and the neighboring town of Waterloo to the north.The hamlets are Canoga, Canoga Springs, Fayette, Kuneytown, Rose Hill, MacDougall, and Yale.
Fayette is an important location of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints movement. In 1830, Joseph Smith organized the church in the home of a friend in Fayette. The six people there were the first six members. A reconstruction of the original home is now in the same location.
Traffic Tickets in Fayette
The town’s main road is New York State Route 96 (NYS-96). It runs north and south through the center of town. Taking NYS-96 northbound will bring you to the neighboring town and village of Waterloo. Another busy road is New York State Route 414 (NYS-414). Taking the NYS-414 northbound brings you to Seneca Falls. Running east and west through town is County Route 121 (Yellow Tavern Road). It connects NYS-96 and NYS-414 together, as well as many other roads. It stretches across the entirety of town. Along Seneca Lake, County Route 125 (Lake Road) runs north and south. Heading north and south along Cayuga Lake in the eastern part of town is New York State Route 89 (NYS-89).
The Town of Fayette does not employ a police department. Town roads are monitored by the New York State Police and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office. All tickets issued in Fayette are made answerable to the Fayette Town Court (Town of Fayette Justice Court). This excludes tickets issued in the village, which are made answerable to the Waterloo Town Court.
