Fremont is a town in Sullivan County, New York. It is a rural area in the Catskills Mountains. The western town line is formed by the Delaware River. Across the river is Wayne County, Pennsylvania., the town had an estimated population of 1,300. Fremont encompasses several small hamlets. They are Acidalia, Basket, Fernwood, Fremont Center, Hankins, Lakewood, Long Eddy, Mileses, Obernburg, Pleasant Valley, and Tennanah Lake. The Hamlet of Long Eddy was once a city. It was named Douglas City and was Sullivan County’s first and only city.
