Horseheads is the name of a town and village in Chemung County, New York. The name originates from an incident in the Revolutionary War when a number of horses died due to inclement weather and low food supply. The Village of Horseheads is within the Town of Horseheads. The total population is around nineteen thousand. Horseheads is just north of the City of Elmira and is considered in the Southern Tier Region.
