Kinderhook is the name of a town and village in Columbia County, New York. The village is within the town. Kinderhook is considered part of the Capital District and Hudson Valley regions. It is located on the eastern side of the Hudson River approximately twenty-two miles southeast of Albany.

The town of Kinderhook covers roughly thirty-two square miles. As of March of 2022, the town population was 8,895, making it the most populated town in Columbia County. Kinderhook was settled in 1750 and established in 1788. The town’s name translates to “Children’s Corner” in the Dutch language. Besides the village of Kinderhook, there is another village in the town named Valatie (pronounced “valisha”). In addition, there is one hamlet known as Niverville.
