Lewis is the name of a rural town in Lewis County, New York.. It is at the southwest foothold of the Adirondack Mountains. As of April of 2022, the population was 935. The Town of Lewis covers approximately sixty five square miles. It was settled around 1800 and formed as a township in 1852. Lewis is named after the county it resides in, which is named after former governor of New York State named Morgan Lewis. Lewis consists of several hamlets. They are: Fey Mill, Freeman Mill, Parson Mill, Swancott Mill, and West Leyden. The latter is the main population area of the town.
