Pawling is the name of a town in Dutchess County, New York. It is located on the Connecticut state line around eighty miles northeast of New York City. Pawling is considered part of the Hudson Valley region. The town was formed in 1788 and named after Catherine Pauling. She was the daughter of Henry Beekman, owner of the second largest land patent in Dutchess County. Inside the town there is a village and several hamlets. The village is named Pawling, after the town. The hamlets are Baker Corner, Holmes, Hurd Corners, Quaker Hill, Shorehaven, West Pawling and Woodinville. , the town’s total population was estimated at 8,000.
