Pound Ridge is a town in Westchester County, New York. It is located at the eastern corner of the county, at the Connecticut state line. The town is approximately fifty miles northeast of Midtown, New York City. Pound Ridge is an affluent and rural suburban community. Across the border is the well-known town of New Canaan., the town population was estimated at 5,000.
The Pound Ridge area was settled in 1718 by European migrants. Currently the town covers about twenty-three square miles, although it used to be larger. Part of the town was used to form the neighboring town, North Castle. Pound Ridge was incorporated in 1788. The town’s early growth was attributed to their successful agricultural, beef, and dairy farming industry. It was also a prominent figure in the shoemaking industry, with roughly 150 shoemakers living in town.
