Wappinger Falls is a village in Dutchess County, New York. It is located on the eastern side of the Hudson River roughly 75 miles north of Midtown Manhattan. It is considered part of the Hudson Valley region. The Village of Wappinger Falls is part of two towns. Three quarters of the village is within Wappinger. One quarter of the village is within the Town of Poughkeepsie. The village covers approximately one and a quarter square miles., the village population was approximately 5,642. Wappinger Falls was settled in the mid 1700’s by Dutch migrants. In 1871, the area was incorporated as a village. Many structures from then are maintained to this day. The Wappingers Falls Historic District covers 90 acres. Wappinger Falls was home to Jack Mulhall, one of several American silent film actors that successfully transitioned to sound films. He starred in over 430 films.
