Cortlandt is a town in Westchester County, New York. It is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River, approximately forty miles north of New York City. The town surrounds the small city of Peekskill. The Bear Mountain Bridge, which crosses the Hudson River, is located at the northwestern tip of Cortlandt. The town encompasses the villages of Buchanan and Croton-on-Hudson., the total combined population was estimated at 43,000. Cortlandt was the location of the strategic Kings Ferry - which George Washington used to cross the Hudson on his way to Yorktown, Virginia in 1781.
