New Hartford is a town in Oneida County, New York. It is located just west and south of the City of Utica. The town is mostly residential and serves as a suburb to the city. As of June of 2022, the town’s population was 21,645. Inside the town there are two villages named New Hartford and New York Mills.

From the south comes New York State Route 8, County Route 13 (Roberts Road) and County Route 26A (Oneida Street). Entering from the east is County Route 24A (Higby Road), and from the north, New York State Route 840 (Judd Road), New York State Route 5A, and County Route 30 (Clinton Road). NYS-5, NYS-8, and NYS-12 combine to form the North-South Arterial Highway. It runs through Utica, heading north-east and south-west. The highway is accessible via an interchange found on NYS-8/NYS-840. The southern portion of the highway is also accessible via the Seneca Turnpike (NYS-5). The speed limit on the North-South Arterial Highway is 55 miles per hour.
