New Lisbon is a rural town in Otsego County, New York. The town is around forty miles south of the City of Utica and around fifteen miles north of the small City of Oneonta., its population was estimated at 1,100. The area was first settled in 1773. In 1806 the town was formed under the name “Libson”. In 1808, presumably to distinguish between the town of Lisbon in St. Lawrence County, the name was changed to New Lisbon. The town covers approximately forty-four and two thirds of a square mile. The town consists of several hamlets. They are Garrattsville, New Libson (formerly Noblesville), Stetsonville and Welcome.
