Pinckney is a town in Lewis County, New York. It is part of the Tug Hill region that is east of Lake Ontario and west of the Adirondack Mountains. Pinckney is approximately 20 miles southeast of Watertown, approximately 75 miles northeast of Syracuse, and approximately 60 miles northwest of Rome. The town covers forty-one square miles of mostly forestland. The town was established in 1808 and named after Thomas Pinckney, an American Major General who served as the Governor of South Carolina from 1797 to 1801.
