Fulton is a rural town located in Schoharie County, New York. It is located in the northwest corner of the Catskill Mountains. The City of Albany is approximately fifty miles east. The smaller city of Oneonta is approximately forty miles west., the town’s population was estimated at 1,600. Fulton was initially settled in 1715, and formally established in 1828. The town consists of several hamlets. They are: Breakabeen, Fultonham, Patria, Watsonville and West Fulton.

The town does not employ its own police department. Tickets issued in town are written by the New York State Police and the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office. The authorities patrol the town to ensure driver and civilian safety. They often issue tickets on the larger town roads but are known to also set up speed traps on lesser used ones. The town’s arterial road, New York State Route 30 (NYS-30), cuts through town heading north and south along the town’s east boundary. It runs along the Schoharie Creek and crosses over it multiple times as it heads south from the Hamlet of Watsonville. The more rural area of town to the west is served by county routes and smaller local roads. Common tickets issued in Fulton are for speeding, suspended registration, passing unsafely, expired registration, and DUI.
